After spending years in Suffolk ‘B’, Southampton made the leap to Suffolk ‘A’. While the competition elevated, so did Southampton. The Mariners used a balanced effort to best Bayport-Blue Point 72-56 at home Tuesday night to advance to the Suffolk ‘A’ final.

Jack Piekos struck out nine in a complete game and the Phantoms scored four runs in the fifth to win the Class A Long Island title over Clarke.

Bayport-Blue Point came back from down 22-17 in the fifth set to win the Suffolk Class B title.
National championship runner-up Maryland, No. 4 Albany and No. 10 Duke were a few of the many top schools represented with coaches at the showcase. More than 400 club teams ranging from third grade to high school came from 33 states to get exposure, said George Breres, one of the event’s directors.
